For the past nine months, being on Twitter has been like riding a rollercoaster — if the rollercoaster was one terrifying plunge after another that seemingly came out of nowhere, and also the tracks were on fire. Ever since Elon Musk assumed ownership of the platform, much of its userbase have been waiting for the the next bombastically dumb thing he does that will finish it off once and for all.
Up until now, he has just about managed to cling to relevance despite multiple rivals springing up in the hopes of taking over as the internet's premier text-based social media. However, the move that has been made over the weekend might be enough to tip it over the edge.
A radical rebrand has been announced for the place formerly known as Twitter, which is now called X. Even the iconic bird logo has been replaced with the singular letter. Unsurprisingly, few people have been impressed with this latest in the long line of radical changes. It's almost impossible to undo seventeen years of branding, especially in a situation like this. What are we supposed to call tweets now?
